No player can argue that the game of hockey has a life of its own. What starts as groups of adults playing a kid’s game eventually becomes a support network of friends, having a good time and creating memories. We lace our skates and play with our hearts on our sleeves. We play for fun at night and go to work the next day no matter how hard the hit was the night before. Each game has its own pulse created by the speed of the game and the bond of the team. This is what it means to be a RHFC member.
RHFC would like to acknowledge two members of the Richmond Hockey Community, who were part of the pulse of every game. Earlier this year we lost John D’Angelo, a local referee. He brought a unique flair to the game, in fact, he was the only referee could give you a penalty and make you laugh at the same time. In early July, we lost John Kelly. He was vital to the RHFC HFH3 game and was on the RHFC total roster. John played with all his heart and this in turn motivated you to play your best against him. His presence can never be replaced and his smile will always be missed.
The entire RHFC family would also like to say thank you and offer our best wishes to Mike Maniscalco. The heights that RHFC have reached are in no small part a direct result of Mike’s hard work and dedication to the cause. All of us in Richmond will miss Mike and we all know the people of Raleigh, NC will be better off for having him be part of their community. Thanks for everything Mike!
RHFC is proud of the generous contributions our members have made over these last fouryears. Everyone involved, whether as a player, RHFC official, volunteer, sponsor, individual contributor, family member, friend, fan, patient or survivor should take pride in what has been accomplished over the last four years. For that, we are all winners. For more information about the 5th Annual Hockey for Hope game go to our News and events page.
The players would like to personally thank everyone who helped with the behind-the-scenes work, which made it possible for us to skate in the games. Because of your hard work and your dedication, each of us was able to participate in a hockey game that we will never forget.
To our sponsors, words only can’t thank you enough. Without your generous and continued support RHFC would not be as successful as it is today. THANK YOU - from the bottom of our hearts. We are all extremely grateful to each and every one of you.
To everyone who attended the game, bid on the auctions, bought raffle tickets, merchandise and supported us with love and understanding, we can never express the impact you have all made on our lives and the lives of those stricken with cancer. All we can do is express our deepest gratitude for your unwavering strength.
